How do you tell that the honey you bought has no syrup added?

We support honey producers and packers in being able to show the authenticity of their product and the source it came from.

Implementation

Molevex in honey.

A quality record running from the collection point to the jar. A sugar source added from outside shows up as a difference when compared against the reference. Your claim about where your product came from is put on record. You see over time which beekeeper's product stays consistent.

Honey comes from a highly fragmented supply. Product collected from hundreds of beekeepers does not arrive at the same quality batch after batch.

You cannot assess batches from dozens of beekeepers one by one. Added syrup cannot be told apart by eye or by taste. Your floral and regional claim sets your price. An authenticity enquiry in export holds up the whole consignment.

Risks

Risks in honey.

Added syrup

Sugar sources added from outside are the sector's most widespread and least visible problem.

Fragmented supply

Collecting from hundreds of small producers makes quality variation unavoidable.

Export barriers

Authenticity checks in target markets are the principal risk to a consignment.

Regulation

Regulations relevant to traceability.

TR

List of imitated or adulterated foods

Under Article 31(6) of Law No. 5996, the name of the company that produced or imported a food confirmed by laboratory results to be imitated or adulterated, along with the product name, brand and batch and/or serial number, is published by the Ministry. Because the announcement is made at batch level, it matters that businesses can tell their own batches apart reliably.

EU Agri-Food Fraud Network (FFN)

Since 2013 it has brought together the liaison bodies of the European Commission, the member states, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland to share information and cooperate on cross-border food fraud cases. The network's coordinated actions in areas such as honey, spices and food sold online indicate where the risk lies in these product groups.

FAQ

Questions about honey

Is anything added to our product or our production line?

No. Your product's own composition is examined; your packaging, your recipe and your machinery are left untouched. A product waiting in the warehouse or already on sale can be examined too.

Where do we start?

Let's set up verification for your honey together. We will start from how you collect and where you sell.

Meeting request

Let's decide together which of your products to examine.

The first meeting reviews your product, sales channels and the risks you face, and recommends a suitable method.
